On Friday, Iris's mom, Anita de Waard, inspired the scientist in all of us! Anita helped students to connect our current study of matter to our previous study of forces and motion with demonstrations involving 'liquid nitrogen'. Best of all, she ignited curiosity in Team Couloir students.Thank you Anita.

Friday Formal Day and Outside Play!
This past Friday, 93% of our team dressed up for 'Formal Day'. Our team had the highest percentage and we won a pizza party as a result!
We also got outside to enjoy some sunshine together during 'team time'. Today we begin the third trimester.

Sledding + Science = Fun!
Our last minute field trip to Mills River Park yesterday was a great success. Students had fun and applied many of the science concepts we have been exploring; friction, gravity and inertia. Today during CPR, students were able to demonstrate clear understanding of these concepts with examples from yesterday and in their day to day lives.

Skating at Cairns Arena
We had a wonderful field trip to Cairns Arena on Friday. Thank you to our great chaperones, Eric Sandy, Bob and Angela Halsted, Laura Merena, Mark Redmond, Beth Novotny, and Marcy Shelden. For many students, this was their first skating experience. Students persevered and really supported each other. Each group took some time with their chaperones to explore Newton's Three Laws and how they applied to our skating experience. In addition, everyone had a chance to do 'three speed test trials' as part of our experiment testing, 'does mass affect speed?". We will be using this information and analyzing it later this week on spreadsheet. Thank you for supporting another great learning opportunity.

Solstice Candles
Mrs. Brandt led Team Couloir earlier this week in creating candles in walnut shells. Today, we went to the Covered Bridge and set our lit candles afloat, down the Browns River. Students made wishes for the New Year as their candle went down stream.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful vacation and a happy, healthy New Year.
