Hour of Code on Team Couloir

For the past two weeks(minus some snow days), Team Couloir students have been working on learning and practicing 'code'. Many students are already very proficient, while others are just starting. There is a wealth of resources out there to support students in this exploration. Please consider trying some of the links yourself that we posted on our Team Couloir Math Site.
Today we had a visit from Professor Josh Bongard, who teaches coding at UVM. He brought some of his graduate students with him. Professor Bongard presented to the students briefly and took some time to look at what the students had been working on.

Andy Goldsworthy inspired Theme Time

Last Friday, Team Couloir students used inspiration from the artist Andy Goldsworthy to create sculptures in nature.

Welcome Back!

We area delighted to be embarking on a second year with our students. Our first two days have been busy and filled with games, review of routines and expectations. Students have been scrambled into two new groups; The Andes and The Sierras.
Please ask your child...
1) which group are you in? what class book are you reading with this group?
2) what is your first EXP? Unified Arts Class?
3) What is the new arrival routine at BRMS?
4) name three games you have played with your class.

Today, as part of our study of volume, students built a cubic meter, cubic foot and began to measure the volume of our classroom.

Team Lunch

We had a nice team lunch today. It is always a treat to have everyone sit together at our 'Harry Potter' table.

Derek Burkins(Riley's Dad)- A song writing visit.

Today, Derek Burkins (Riley's Dad) visited Team Couloir to inspire our writer's and poet's with his writing process. He began with a song and followed with a lesson on word choice. He gave all of the students a copy of his CD titled 'Ten Years and 29 Days'. Thank you Derek for sharing your music world with us!

Oobleck, bubbles and more!

This past Friday students had the opportunity to play with Oobleck and analyze 'what phase it was in', build 3D shapes from clay and toothpicks(dipping in soap to top it off) in an exploration of volume, and finally to appreciate Spring  in a watercolor painting of their natural surroundings. Students were very engaged and enthusiastic about each of these stations.
